From the ground, Grand Prismatic Basin just hadn't looked as impressive the pictures I'd seen. A bit of hiking uphill got the view I wanted. The water itself is blue; the other colors come from cyanobacteria.

This pool has three geysers -- Vent, Turban, and Grand. Turban erupts frequently, sometimes -- about every 8 hours -- triggering a Grand eruption, which always triggers a Vent eruption.

A bit west of where I was, hundreds of bison were crossing the road, causing a giant traffic jam. I was so busy watching that, I almost didn't notice the much closer ones coming up from the east side.
